Asking for Wisdom

I am big on declarations and watching their power transform my mind and my life. I’m in a season where I am in need of wisdom, I need to make some decisions about my future that will affect me, my family, my finances and my church. This morning in my devotion I decided to expound on my search for wisdom in the Bible. God shared with me scriptures and declarations that I can read and meditate on to remind me that God desires to give wisdom, understanding and truth. If you, like me are in need of wisdom, here are some promises from God to get you the help you need from the Lord.

Psalm 119:97-100
“Oh, how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day. You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients(aged) because I keep your precepts.”
  • Thank you Lord that as I study and meditate on your commandments that you make me wiser than my enemies.
  • Thank you God that in every situation I am able to make shrewd decisions, more shrewd/wise than the people of this world.
  • Thank you God that like Daniel, I am able to outsmart my enemies.
  • Thank you God that you give me understanding beyond all my teachers. That I understand more than those who have more experience than me.
  • Thank you God that you make me wiser than my counterparts, that I have wisdom for solutions to every problem that is faced.
  • Thank you God that your testimonies – the good things that you are doing and have done are my focus. I am not focused on negative things.
Deuteronomy 4:6
“Therefore be careful to observe them (commandments); for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statues, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”
  • I am careful to observe all of your commands.
  • Obeying your commands is the wisdom and understanding that I need.
  • Thank you God for making us (your people) a wise and understanding people.
  • Thank you God that you give me eyes to peer beyond what is seen and look deeper. Thank you that you give me discernment for every situation whether dealing with your people or the world.
2 Timothy 3:15
..and from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction(training, discipline) in righteousness, that the man(woman) of God may be complete(having special aptitude), thoroughly equipped for every good work.
  • I study your Holy Scriptures and they make me wise. They are the greatest source of wisdom – period. There is no book, no class, no information that will make me as wise as the Bible.
  • I intentionally create opportunities for my kids to learn, love and respect the Word of God.
  • I declare that my kids know the Holy Scriptures and live by them. They are wise, wiser than their peers, and they make good decisions in every situation they face.
  • All scripture is given by God and is useful for every area of our lives.
  • The word of God is training me in righteousness.
  • The Word of God is giving me special aptitude to complete things that otherwise I would not be able to.
  • Because of the Word of God, I am thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Job 32:8-9
“But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding. Great men are not always wise, nor do the aged always understand justice.”
  • Thank you Lord that your breath, the breath of the Almighty God is giving me understanding.
1 Kings 4:29-30
“And God gave Solomon wisdom and exceedingly great understanding, and largeness of heart like the sand on the seashore. Thus Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the men of the East and all the wisdom of Egypt.”
– Solomon asked for wisdom and it was given to him abundantly. He did have formal training, multiple degrees (maybe) but He had a promise and a blessing from God of wisdom. With his wisdom came everything else. If God can do it for Solomon, He can and will do it for me.
God I ask for wisdom, exceedingly great understanding and largeness of heart. * (need to figure out what this means)
Proverbs 2:6-7
“For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright…”
  • Thank you God that You are the giver of wisdom.
  • Thank you God that I am tuned into what you are saying – that I hear and understand that knowledge and wisdom that you are sharing with me.
  • Thank you God that there are stores of sound wisdom saved up for me, waiting for me to access it.
Wisdom comes from His mouth, which means I need to be tuned into what He is saying.
Ecclesiastes 2:26
“For God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy to a man who is good in His sight; but to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and collecting, that he may give to him who is good before God…”
  • Thank you God that you give me wisdom, knowledge and joy.
  • Thank you that I am good in your sight.
  • Thank you God that others are doing the work for me, gathering and collecting, so that you can bless me.
Daniel 1:17
“As for these four young men God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.”
  • God is giving me knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom.
  • I have understanding for visions and dreams.
Daniel 1:20
“And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm.”
  • Thank you God that in all matters of wisdom and understanding I am ten times better than the ungodly around me.
  • Thank you God that my kids have ten times more wisdom and understanding then the ungodly around them.
Daniel 2:20-23
“Blessed be the name of God forever and ever. For wisdom and might are His. And He changes the times and seasons; He removes kings and raises kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him. I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers; You have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we asked of You, for You have made known to us the king’s demand.”
  • God, I recognize that all wisdom, might and knowledge come from You.
  • God, you change times and seasons, you remove kings and raise kings.
  • Thank you God that you give wisdom and knowledge. That you reveal deep and secret things to me.
  • Thank you God that as your child I can ask for wisdom and you grant what I ask for.
When Daniel needed wisdom, he didn’t run around trying to find it, He asked it of God and it was granted. God will do the same for you.
James 1:5
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
  • Thank you Lord that if I lack wisdom I can ask of You and You will give to me liberally.
  • Thank you God that with you there are no dumb questions, You have insight into everything and want to give wisdom and understanding unto me.
